Haworth celebrated its 70-year anniversary with two days of events that included tours of the company’s global headquarters, new product previews and the debut of a gallery featuring 70 years of prototypes.
HOLLAND — Haworth kicked off its 70-year anniversary celebration with a visit from Lt. Gov. Brian Calley this week.
The two-day event — Thursday and Friday, May 10-11 — served as a chance for the local furniture company to preview new products, give tours of the manufacturing facilities, office tours of Haworth’s working showroom and show a gallery that debuts 70 years of prototypes and concepts for the office of the future.
“I am absolutely thrilled to see all these people come out and I want to thank you for coming and for helping us have a little celebration in Holland,” said Dick Haworth, chairman emeritus.
Haworth shared the story of how he was six years old when his father received a $10,000 loan from Dick’s grandparents to start the business.
“Dad had the guts to start this business and without that $10,000 and dad’s guts, we wouldn’t be here today celebrating 70 years in business,” Haworth said. “I’m thrilled to be here and thankful for the customers. The customers that have high expectations, the customers that demand a lot, give us ideas and ask us to do more.”
Along with comments from Dick Haworth and Chairman Matt Haworth, Calley spoke about the journey Haworth has gone through as a company, starting from humble beginnings and growing through hard work, leadership and values.
“Over time, things change,” Calley said. “Communities change, customers change, materials change and designs change but the values and the work ethic has stayed the same. This company is so ingrained in the definition of what it means to be West Michigan. It wouldn’t be Holland without you.”
Calley also highlighted the company and its drive to be innovative, creative and determined while meeting the demands of customers along the way.
“I’m so proud to be here to celebrate 70 years,” he said. “Seventy years as a company that knows how to change in the right way and a company that knows how to stay the same in the important ways.”
