Orgatec Review

Orgatec 2010 – the international trade fair for modern office and work environments – was held in Cologne between October 26 and October 30. Over 600 office furnishers and facilities designers gathered at the grand Orgatec exhibition to present innovative ideas and solutions for the challenges faced by modern workplaces.

Orgatec 2010 offered a great opportunity to office furniture and interiors design representatives from all over the world – from Australia to Dubai; from Singapore to France – to learn from each other, to see the latest developments made in the office furniture market first hand  and to absorb developments made in market as a whole.

The Orgatec show had representatives and participants from various renowned names in the furniture business  around the world, such as Vitra, Herman Miller, Humanscale, Bisley, Kinnarps, and many more who presented a wide spectrum of products suitable for varied work situations. Vitra, for instance, used the opportunity to highlight the ways in which its Citizen Office theme translates the demands made by today's companies and employees, into an office situation.

In the Citizen Office environment presented by Vitra, members of staff can make their contributions in an autonomous manner, in a work culture based on mutual trust. It is the employees who determine the appropriate rhythm, form and place for the activity in the office. The Citizen Office work environment is ergonomic in nature. It is appreciated for its activity, its dynamics and its movement – while at the same time the subjective well-being of the employees is being recognised as a productivity factor.

Vitra also introduced  new products like ID chair, Unix chair, Ad hoc office system, WorKit & Silent Wall & Storage, and many other products that extended and supported the possibilities offered by the Citizen Office.

Kinnarps was also at the Orgatec exhibition  and presented a number of products including a workplace system comprising both tabletop and frame sections for a number of work situations. In the office storage arena, Bisley had the most innovative offering of all. They introduced a prototype for Console on display, bringing storage into the centre rather than assuming its location in the periphery of the office space.

The Orgatec show also had representatives from various others parts of the world to share their theories and predictions for the future workplace.

To summarise, the ORGATEC show is undoubtedly the only trade fair to present so many comprehensive solutions from all relevant sectors for working and living spaces in the office and the Orgatec show 2010 focused on the flexible and dynamic working environments of the future.
