Haworth Germany plans restructuring

Tuesday 1 October 2013

The German division of the US office furniture maker, Haworth, has announced extensive plans for restructuring the company. The main reason is that it is loss-making at the moment. Under the name ‘Future project Haworth Germany’, Haworth plans to close its plant in Ahlen and restructure its facilities in Bad Münder before the end of 2014. Haworth HQ has agreed to invest several millions in the expansion of future activities upon successful implementation of these measures.
Haworth Germany is currently not profitable as a result of the declining turnover in important European markets and in Germany, for which products are made in Ahlen.
Employees will be offered the possibility to move from Ahlen to Bad Münder. In Bad Münder, improvements through more efficient processes and changes in labour conditions will be required as well. Haworth Germany currently employs 400 people.
Henning Figge, Vice President Europe and CEO of Haworth Germany said: “We regret this radical transformation but we consider it absolutely necessary for a successful future in Germany.
In other European countries, Haworth is growing profitably, despite difficult market conditions. Structural measures have contributed to this, which is what we would like to achieve in Germany as well.
Among other things, we focus on our mass-customised product offering, which has been well-received by our customers. In combination with the announced measures we can then fully exploit the great potential in Germany.”
